New Frontier schedule will lack variety
Evansville Courier & Press - Nov 16, 2003
"The [Kenosha] Mammoths, who moved from Dubois County to Kenosha last year, are the Frontier League's weak link. After averaging just 636 people per home date last summer, they're in the market for a new home.

That's why the 2004 league schedule won't be officially released until the Kenosha situation is settled - perhaps by mid-December. Insiders say negotiations are ongoing between the Mammoths' owners and three Midwestern cities: Springfield, Ohio, Springfield, Mo., and the Kansas City suburb of Lee's Summit, Mo."

Evansville not only city where Frontier League thrives
Evansville Courier-Press - Nov 6, 2003
"There has been speculation the Kenosha franchise will be moved to the Kansas City suburb of Lee's Summit, Mo., perhaps as early as next season. However, insiders say 2005 is a more likely target date. [Frontier League Commissioner Bill] Lee declined to discuss the Kenosha situation, saying he'll know more after the weekend."

T-Bones Reliever Gets Choice World Cup Role
T-Bones Press Release - Oct 14, 2003
"T-Bones relief pitcher D.J. Johnson, who went 7-2 with 17 saves while posting a 2.45 ERA for the T-Bones in 2003, is proving to be an integral part of the U.S. World Cup team, which is contesting for the 35th World Cup title at four sites in Cuba. On October 12th, Johnson hurled a scoreless inning in Team USA’s 4-0 win over Mexico."

Northern League mulling extended season
Lincoln Journal-Star - Oct 11, 2003

"Northern League owners are expected to extend the baseball season by six games during the league's fall meetings, which will be held today and Saturday in Kansas City, Kan. By adding six games to the schedule, the Northern League season will increase to 96 games. The main reason the league wants to add more games is to keep up with the Atlantic League, a rival independent league that plays a 120-game schedule."

"Another issue on the docket for the owners to hash out is realignment. Two proposals are on the table:One would keep the 2003 divisions intact, while the other would set up a North-South alignment in which Lincoln and Kansas City would be grouped with the three Chicago-area teams."

Another minor-league team hopes to play ball in KC
Kansas City Star - Oct 7, 2003
"Word has it that the Frontier League is looking to expand into Kansas City — Lee's Summit, specifically — at least by 2005. Perhaps sooner. The Frontier League is a 12-team league similar to the Northern League, home to the Kansas City T-Bones. 'I think there's plenty of room in the Kansas City area for more baseball,' Frontier League commissioner Bill Lee said by phone Monday. 'For one thing, we're 40 miles from (the T-Bones).'

But the Royals, of course, would be far closer in proximity. 'We don't consider ourselves competition for the Royals,” Lee said. “We'd consider ourselves an asset.' In fact, last month the Royals signed left-hander Matt Schweitzer from the Richmond (Ind.) Roosters from the Frontier League."

Kansas City's new minor league team calls first season a success
Duluth News Tribune - Sep 1, 2003
"But despite the presence of major league competition - the Kansas City Royals and its unexpected presence in the AL Central pennant race - the T-Bones' drew 209,082 fans to CommunityAmerica Ballpark. That was good for the fourth-best attendance in the 10-team Northern League, and about four times better than the franchise's attendance last year in Duluth, Minn."

T-Bones still in playoff hunt with win
Kansas City Star - Aug 27, 2003
"The T-Bones refuse to go away.

Just when it looks as if they will lose all hopes for the playoffs, they come alive. That was the case Tuesday night, as the T-Bones routed the Sioux City Explorers 10-0 in Iowa.

With the win, coupled with a loss by Fargo-Moorhead, the T-Bones are four games back with five to play."

T-Bones blank Explorers
Sioux City Journal - Aug 27, 2003
"Ray Brown drove in four runs and league RBI leader Eddie Pearson plated three more for the T-Bones, the last team still mathematically alive in the West Division's second-half race.

The first-year Kansas City club, relocating from Duluth, Minn., has a 21-19 second-half mark while division-leading Fargo-Moorhead was 25-15 after a 9-3 loss to Lincoln.

That pulled the T-Bones within four games of first, but they have only five left to play, virtually playing themselves out of it with three losses in a four-game series ending Monday in Fargo."

Surf adding players for playoff surge
Press of Atlantic City - Aug 24, 2003
"The spotlight often seems to focus on the Atlantic League when people discuss independent baseball graduates who now play for major-league franchises. But another independent circuit, the Frontier League, actually has the most former players currently in the 30 major league organizations, regardless of classification.

Of the 179 one-time independent players now in affiliated baseball, 60 of them played in the Frontier League, a 12-team league that focuses on young players (under-27) with less than four years of professional experience.

The Northern League is second with 43 and the Atlantic League has 42. Both have seven major leaguers."

T-Bones' playoff hopes dim
Kansas City Star - Aug 25, 2003
"A disappointing weekend series in Fargo, N.D. has left the T-Bones on the brink of elimination from the playoff chase. Two defeats and Sunday's victory have left the T-Bones four games behind Fargo-Moorhead with only seven games remaining. Tonight's game concludes the season series between the clubs. Realistically, the T-Bones must win tonight to maintain any real hope of making the playoffs."
