NL Central breaks off affiliation with East
Winnipeg Sun, Canada - 18 October 2002
"The main issue remaining is a potential divisional re-alignment. The proposed move involves shift from North and South to an East/West format, which would put the Goldeyes in a division with the St. Paul Saints, Schaumburg Flyers, Joliet JackHammers and Gary SouthShore RailCats.

The remaining five teams would unofficially become the I-29 division and feature the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, Sioux City Explorers, Sioux Falls Canaries, Lincoln Saltdogs and Kansas City T-Bones (formerly the Duluth-Superior Dukes). "

Bass Pro, minor league ball added to development mix
Olathe Daily News - 16 October 2002

Development Rights OK'd
Olathe project could include baseball stadium, Bass Pro Shop

Kansas City Star - 16 October 2002
"Initially, Hammons only proposed building a 300-room hotel, a conference center covering as much as 120,000 square feet, and a 8,000- to 10,000-seat arena. But in a late twist, Hammons told the City Council that he might expand the project to include a Bass Pro Shop and a baseball stadium. To do that, Hammons' project would have to include land beyond the 27-acre site at the southeast corner of 119th Street and Renner Road. That most likely would be a 30-acre tract at the southwest corner of 119th and Renner, city officials said."

"Other unanswered questions include what kind of baseball team Hammons would bring to Olathe and whether it could make it with a minor league team planning to move to Kansas City, Kan., next summer. Some experts believe it would be hard for two teams playing so close together to make it financially."

This map shows the two proposed Olathe ballpark sites as well as Kaufmann Stadium and the KC T-Bones stadium site.

New minor league team to be named T-Bones
Pittsburg Morning Sun, KS - 15 Oct 2002
A short article, but it includes some info that I hadn't seen in print before:
"The new 5,000-seat baseball stadium is on schedule to be finished in time for the home opener, Hurd said. Construction began this week.

Hurd said the T-Bones will keep about nine players from the Duluth-Superior team. Twelve to 13 new players will be added after a tryout later this year."
