From Jeffrey Flanagan of the Kansas City Star: "While there has been much talk about the new Northern League team coming to Wyandotte County, not much has been heard from the organizers who announced last summer that they were bringing a Frontier League team to Olathe. We mention this because one Frontier League team that was a potential candidate to relocate already has -- the Canton (Ohio) Coyotes are moving to Columbia."
The Frontier League had 6 franchises draw less than 2,000 fans a game last season, so there are plently of potential candidates for moving to Olathe. The Johnstown Johnnies are looking to move and have been linked with the new stadium in Florence, Kentucky. The city of Evansville, Indiana has decided to build a new stadium to attract an affliliated team and the Otters may not be back in 2003. A rumor is going around that the Cook County Cheetahs have fired their entire staff and the owner is looking to sell as well. Several articles about the Canton Coyotes moving to Columbia, Missouri can be found here.

NORTHERN LEAGUE REMAINS A TOP DRAW
Northern League Press Release - 21 October 2002
Six of the ten current Northern League teams finished among the top 68 minor league teams in average attendance. The top 100 teams are listed here. The T-Bones expect to be on this list next year, as they are projecting 2003 attendance at 250,000, or roughly 5,500 a game.
Northern League Split
Baseball America - 18 October 2002
"With nine of its 10 teams playing in relatively new ballparks and almost 1.75 million fans in attendance last season, the Central is the oldest and most stable of the independent leagues. While the East has gained better footing than it was when the agreement was reached four years ago, it doesn't share the Central's financial status."
