Developer seeks help
Olathe Daily News - 08 Feb 2003
"A prominent developer is asking Olathe to more than triple the size of a special tax break district to help him build a minor league baseball stadium and retail center in addition to a first-class hotel, sports arena and conference center. John Q. Hammons of John Q. Hammons Industries, is asking the city to add another 67 acres to a 27-acre Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District at the southeast corner of 119th Street and Renner Road. Including only the arena, hotel and conference center, Hammons estimates the cost of the project to be between $90 and $104 million. Cost estimates for the retail and baseball stadium components will be available at Tuesday's City Council meeting. The request for a larger TIF district comes almost four months after Hammons himself announced the addition of a 6,500-seat baseball stadium and an 120,000 square-foot retail building that may be occupied by a BassPro Shop. The addition of the two new features would expand the project across Renner to the west and could include closing the street to the north of the development, said Assistant City Manager Dick Garofano."

T-Bones search for host families
Bonner Springs Chieftain – 18 Dec 2002
"The team, which begins its inaugural 90-game season in May, is beginning the process of looking for host families for several players, some of whom will earn as little as $750 a month salary."
"Families that agree to take a player in during the season will receive a pair of tickets to each of the T-Bones' 45 home games."
The official Nothern League website has been revamped. Check it out.

"If WHB buys the radio rights to broadcast the T-Bones games this summer, as expected, you might be hearing a familiar voice on the air -- Brian McRae. McRae, one of the investing partners at WHB and Union Broadcasting, has been a game analyst for ESPN and also does broadcasting work at mlb.com. 'I want to stay sharp in terms of broadcasting games,' McRae said. "If I do some T-Bones games that will help if ESPN calls up and says `Go do such-and-such game.' I want to be ready.' "
The T-Bones have purchased the rights to infielder Chad Ehrnsberger from the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League according to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. Chad was the starting 3rd baseman for the Wild Things last year, batting .302/.368/.450 in 79 games. Washington had the best record in the league last year at 56-28, but lost to the Richmond Roosters in the Championship Series.

"The T-Bones have landed a naming-rights sponsor: CommunityAmerica Credit Union owns the naming rights to the new stadium for the next 10 years. The new stadium will be called CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Hmmm. Will they be calling it 'The CAB?' "

"By the way, rumor has it that the new Channel 41 addition to go along with Harry and Holbrook will be Chris Earl, who has been working in Duluth, Minn., at KDLH-TV. Earl grew up in Kansas City. What's interesting about the possible hire is that Earl was often at odds with the Ehlart family -- John and Adam -- which owns the T-Bones, who fled Duluth for Wyandotte County. Earl was one of the first Duluth reporters to learn of the Northern League team's decision to bail on Duluth."
The T-Bones have posted new construction photos on their website from January 29th.
