Overnight rain causes T-Bones to adjust first practice
Kansas City Star - May 10, 2003
Spring training has begun. The T-Bones will be practicing at Kansas City Kansas Community College Monday through Wednesday before playing 3 exhibition games on the road this weekend. The outdoor practices are scheduled from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Minor league baseball team targets KCK's burgeoning tourist market

"Construction of the [Kansas] Speedway provided infrastructure - road improvements, better freeway access - for the attractions that followed. And there are echoes of the speedway's Fan Walk and Autograph Alley, where racegoers can get close to their favorite drivers, in the layout of Community America Ball Park. A concourse goes all the way around the outfield, so fans can watch players hitting in indoor cages before games - or listen in on bullpen conversations in the late innings. The T-Bones players also will sign autographs before and after games. And in keeping with the 'up close and personal' theme, the T-Bones will have seating on the grass beyond the right field wall - which is a homer-friendly 4 1/2 feet high. 'Not only that, but think about the times when you'll have a player making a diving grab over the wall right in front of the fans,' [T-Bones General Manager Adam] Ehlert said. 'It should make for some memorable moments.' "

"[Catcher Allen] Shrum is in his seventh year of professional baseball, having spent time in the Minnesota Twins and San Francisco Giants minor league systems. 'I’ve been around from coast to coast to play a little ball,' Shrum said. 'I dare to say that this is going to be one of the better parks that I’ve ever set foot in.' "

Not much new info here, but there is one important item that I haven't seen in print before: $2.50 beers!

"The odds of a just-for-fun Royals vs. T-Bones playoff series: Zippo, says Royals promotions pooh bah Charlie Seraphin. 'Will the Kansas City Chiefs scrimmage the Raytown varsity football team?' Seraphin quips.

One T-Bones experience that figures to be family-friendly come the June 6 home opener: A low-to-the-ground children's concession stand, with all items priced at $1 or less."

T-Bones eager to bring minor-league baseball to Kansas City
Kansas City Star - May 5, 2003
The wait is nearly over. The T-Bones begin spring training this Friday, hold a tryout camp Saturday and Sunday, and have three exhibition games on the road the following weekend. They'll open the season on May 23rd in St. Paul and the home opener is two weeks later. Although all fixed seating is sold out, there appear to be plenty of lawn seats available for the inaugural home game.

Will Royals' hot start cook T-Bones' chances?
Kansas City Star - May 5, 2003
" 'It's the worst thing that could have happened to the T-Bones,' says local baseball lover Will Gregory. 'I would suspect that's not what the T-Bones were hoping for. Ideally, the Royals would (still) be losing at this point, if you're the T-Bones.' "
