Saltdogs let 7-1 advantage slip away
Lincoln Journal Star - Jun 21, 2003
"Kansas City's Rick Prieto hit for the cycle, completing it with an inside-the-park home run in the ninth. Prieto lined a ball into center field, and Edge tried to run in and make a diving catch. The ball slipped under his glove and rolled to the wall, allowing Prieto to circle the bases. Prieto doubled in the first, tripled in the fifth and singled in the seventh."

The pressure is on
Kansas City Kansan - Jun 19, 2003
"The off-the-field and between innings action that goes on during the games initally for me was entertaining, but now has become more and more routine for me, so much to where you get use to it, become numb to the activity and something else has to come into play. Now, I've been there for just about every game so, naturally that might happen, but like myself, fans may begin to feel the same way to where the promotions will start to lose the effect."

New proposal, public hearing for arena site
Olathe Daily News - Jun 17, 2003
"A public hearing was set Tuesday for Aug. 5 for an ever-changing Olathe arena proposal, which probably won't include a minor league baseball stadium or even an arena. Before beginning work on a defining community element like a sports complex, Olathe needs to ensure the 'economic engine' is there to carry the rest of the development, said attorney John Petersen, representing the developer of the project, John Q. Hammons. The Olathe attorney said an arena and baseball stadium should not be the first order of business in the proposed project, which will bring a luxury hotel, conference center and at least one big-box retail store to 119th Street and Renner Road. In fact, Petersen said, a baseball stadium was probably out of the picture altogether. 'A baseball stadium is probably not viable for this project,' the attorney said. A minor league baseball team began its first season this spring in Kansas City, Kan. Other cities in the area are clamoring to produce similar developments in their communities, Petersen said. 'Communities throughout the metro area are striving to build developments that are uniquely their own, whether they call those developments arenas or cultural event centers or whatever.' "

The T-Bones have released a revised 2003 promotional schedule. You won't want to be anywhere but the CAB next Tuesday for Las Vegas Vacation Giveaway/Mullet Night.

Now that the basketball and hockey seasons are finally over, I'm hoping we'll be able to listen to a lot more T-Bones games live on WHB, rather than tape delay (Danny's ex-girlfriends may prefer the Canaries' radio broadcast). Jonathan Krysa will take the mound for Kansas CIty against Sioux Falls' Chad Johnson for tonight's 7:03 PM start. Your best bet for T-Bones coverage on the road is usually where the game is being played, so check out the Sioux Falls Argus Leader and Sioux Falls Canaries site.

Goldeyes no longer waiting to exhale
Winnipeg Sun - Jun 16, 2003
"The Northern League has to review its criteria when deciding where to put up visiting teams, Winnipeg manager Hal Lanier said. 'The hotel is nice. Of course, it's not in the nicest area,' Lanier said of the accommodations in Kansas City, Kan. 'When a new ball club comes into the league, the league people should come down here and make sure that there are places for the players to eat.' Northern League players receive an $18 U.S. per diem. 'Players could not afford to eat in that hotel every single day on the meal money they are getting,' he said. 'And to not have anything around that hotel for myself, my coaching staff, and my players is totally ridiculous.' "

T-Bones make good early impression with fans
Kansas City Star - Jun 16, 2003
"And then there was this peculiar bit of stadium architecture: There were no bathrooms installed in or near either dugout, meaning players initially had to run beyond the right-field wall to the clubhouse if Mother Nature called. Now, a 'portable' urinal, no more than 4 feet high, is strapped to a dolly and wedged into the corner of each dugout. 'You have to be careful,' Lanier chuckled. 'You don't want to expose yourself to the crowd, that's for sure.' Adam Ehlert, the T-Bones' general manager, said the team made the conscious choice not to install dugout restrooms. 'For us to run pipes out there, it would have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars," he said. "We decided to spend that money on our fans.' Besides, the urinals are barely used."
